Tell me, what do you think about a plant that can treat illnesses and save lives, be made into almost any kind of material you can imagine that is bio degradable, and that can be reproduced about every three months? A plant that, under Federal Law, is illegal and if you get caught with it can ruin your life forever. What if someone you know was sick, in constant pain, or dying? In order to bring them a better quality of life or to save their life, would you risk it? Well those are some of the problems that the people in the Michigan Medical Marihuana Program have to worry about. Lately, these are the issues that plague my mind as well, what are these people going to do? I would like to share some valid reasons of why I think the medical use of this plant is so important.
Two weeks ago I traveled to Clio, Mi where the High Times Medical Cannabis Country Fair Cup was held and I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few members from the MMMP community. I was introduced to a lot of great products that I was able to purchase for myself from people in the MMMP. I really enjoy products made out of Cannabidiol (CBD) such as topicals, edibles, oils, and other concentrates. The medical uses for CBD are great; CBD is one of over 60 compounds found in cannabis with CBD and THC (Tetrahydrocannibinol) having the highest presence. THC is a psychoactive compound (gets you high) whereas CBD is non psychoactive, however they both contain similar benefits. Today’s growers have special techniques to create strains that are high in CBD with almost zero THC. According to the British journal of Clinical Pharmacology, CBD has the following medical properties: Antiemetic, Anticonvulsant, Antipsychotic, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-oxidant, Anti-tumoral/ Anti-cancer, Anxiolytic, and Anti -depressant. I have personally seen it prescribed and used for almost everything on that list. It is also proven to create alertness and reduces the intoxicating effects of THC along problems associated with THC use such as memory impairment and paranoia.
I believe it is important to seek the facts and read the medical research behind the use of cannabis. People are in need of a product they can make themselves and use to heal themselves without all of the negative side effects found in pharmaceutical drugs. It’s our human right. Many great products are available now that can not only save people’s lives but increase their overall quality of life. I personally think marijuana is overlooked as a medicine because of the negative stigma attached to it. Marijuana and it’s variety of compounds have been used in an array of holistic items and people across many cultures have been using it for thousands of years. Only in about the last seventy five years has marijuana become an issue. Why? Because big pharma only see’s its potential for that all mighty dollar bill. I see its potential too but for more than just its ability to generate money, for its natural healing power and that’s why so many people are fighting for it. Free the Weed!
