Sometimes jumping on a plane and getting out of town is just what the restless soul needs. I am lucky enough to have friends that are down to do anything at the drop of a hat. So when I heard my friends in the band Kaleido were doing another kick ass tour with Seether, I had to go and support my people. Of course I saw them here in Detroit when they played Saint Andrews but I decided to show some hometown love and shoot out to California. Not only did we see Kaleido, my friend Mandy Baby and I had the adventure of a lifetime.
Arriving in San Francisco, California on a Friday night, it was time to get the party started. We jumped right into shooting footage for the group Mandy and I formed called Bunzandcakes; we are dropping an EP at the end of the summer. The last time we were in California we wrote a song called California King, so while we were there we decided to shoot some footage for the music video we plan to produce. San Francisco is rife with scenic views and beautiful landscapes, beaches, and mountains; we even went to the botanical gardens. We rented a car the next day and drove up the coast stopping at beaches, popping by the San Francisco pier, and visiting the aquarium. We even grabbed something to eat at Fisherman’s Wharf which is famous for daily caught fresh seafood. Every second of our trip we had plans to do something!
Next up was the Dirty Bird Bbq on Treasure Island. Dirty Bird Records is an innovative American House Music label with a crew of all-stars that are bass driven. The weekend before, I just happened to buy some Dirty Bird gear at the Movement Festival in Detroit. Out in Cali it was a totally different experience; situated right on the water with beautiful views, the show boasted techno house music, bbq, and lots of vibrant people in colorful outfits,- what more could a girl ask for? We ate Bbq, slammed vodka shots, listened to good music, and enjoyed the view; it was a great party.
Our last night there was the night we saw our friends Kaleido at the Filmore for their sold out tour with Seether. I always support my friends on tour; I am so proud of them and want to show them I’m here for them celebrating their success. As they performed, the audience was definitely feeling the Kaleido vibe. Christina jumped in to the crowd and the crowd went wild! Mandy and I sang along with a drink in our hand. Also along for the ride was our buddy Steve Sergent who is a photographer that takes pictures of Kaleido from time to time. This wasn’t the first time Mandy, Steve, and I adventured in Cali together. The Kaleido show was definitely one to remember as we spent it in spectacular company and partied like rock stars!
I think it’s so important to break out of the ordinary everyday routine and get a change of scenery. I feel lucky that I can do things and go places that the average person does not. If you get the chance, take it! Go somewhere new and immerse yourself in the experience. Life is all about those once in a life time moments. I am thankful for my friends and where my life has taken me. Thanks to Kaleido, I had an opportunity to go to San Francisco and have a great time. Make sure to get a copy of their new album Experience out now! You won’t be disappointed.
